My New Handmade Mixed Media Snowlady Art Doll - Meet Lady Snow Belle

If you've been following me for years you know that I hate snow, but love snow-people - especially Victorian snow-ladies.  Yet, I still continue to create them.  Especially Victorian type snow-ladies.  There is no logic to it.

I've been wanting to creating some large Victorian mixed media snow-ladies for awhile and finally decided the time was now or never.  So, of course, I plunged right in and created some.

Lady Snow Belle is a delightful Victorian snow-lady who is a little unusual as she is sitting atop of large winter fuzzy silk floral cactus.  I've been wanting to use this large winter silk floral cactus for quite some time and just haven't found the right application.  Somehow it seemed suitable for this application.  So, I figured - let's give it a go! It'll either work or it won't.

Lady Snow Belle is a large 16" tall Victorian snow-lady with a paper-clay head  and collage body that resides atop a winter silk floral cactus which is atop a wood candle stand.

I sculpted her head out of paper-clay and painted her face with a combination of acrylic paint and watercolor paints.  Modeling paste was used to create her eyebrows and Alene's True Snow was used to create a snowy effect to her whole body.

Her arms were fashioned out of wire and wrapped paper and her scarf was wrapped around her neck and head and created out crinkly paper.  Mixed media fiber has been used around her neck and head as a second scarf for additional decoration.

Her middle and bottom body sections were created out of Styrofoam balls covered with collage papers which were then sponge painted with blue winter colors.

White felt adhesive sticker snowflakes add adornments to the front and back of her top middle front and back section.  Elastic metallic trim has been fashioned into bows and added to her bottom  middle front, back, and sides. Atop the felt snowflakes are paper flowers. Also, glitter puffy paint has been added to the felt snowflakes as further embellishments.

Several decorative metallic ribbons are wrapped around her waist and tied in a bow.

Her unfinished wood candle base was painted with a metallic blue paint and is embellished with Alene's True Snow accents and white winter paper flowers.

Decorative Christmas glitter mesh was wrapped around the bottom of the winter silk floral cactus.

Decorative plastic icicle trim is wrapped around the edge of the top of the base and embellished with Alene's Tru Snow.

The pictures above are close-ups of her back and bottom.

The pictures above are close-ups of her left side and bottom.

The pictures above are close-ups of her right side and bottom.

I was really pleased with the way Lady Snow Belle came out.  She is a delightful snow-lady that I'll be happy to display during the winter season even though I am dreading the snow this year. Maybe she'll cheer me up......
