Beautiful Hand-Spun Textured Art Yarns

I am always in awe of the beautiful crafts supplies my sister makes with her alpaca fiber.  Whether it's roving, carded rovings, hand-crafted carded batts, hand-crafted rolags, hand dyed yarn, hand-spun yarn, natural yarn, or her nuno felted items, handmade yarns, and scarf rings everything turns out beautiful.

And, of course, I want all of it but she is in business so she can't be giving me everything I love or she'd go broke.....lol

Her newest items are hand spun textured art yarns for knitting, weaving, doll hair, mixed media and textured arts and they are absolutely beautiful.  She has 8 one-of-a-kind textured art yarns of 50 yards each for sale on her Rock Garden Alpacas Etsy shop.

I'm secretly hoping she has a few yards left over for her "big" sister's dolls or mixed media projects....lol

Alpaca Wool Felt Mini Quilts Decorations Free E-Patterns and Mug Rugs

I fell in love with mini quilts years ago. Mainly because they were tiny little mini quilts you could easily make and you could hang them just about anywhere for a cute little decoration.  The mini quilts could be made out of any type of fabric, wool felt, and even needle felted out of roving.

Given I was in an "Alpacas Rock" creating mode I decided to design 6 wool felt mini quilts and 1 mug rug showing alpacas for the various decorating seasons and create e-patterns for them as well.  Last week I decided to make all 7 of these e-patterns free for you so you could create cute little alpaca mini quilts and mug rugs of your own.

If you love alpacas, love woodland decorations, love to craft, and love to embroider then you'll be happy to know that we have seven alpaca free e-patterns to show you how to made some adorable wool felt mini quilt decorations, a set of mug rugs and a penny rug alpaca picture.

The alpacas were in charge of the designs and hope you enjoy creating alpaca mini quilts, mug rugs and penny rug pictures of your own.

"Alpacas Fun In The Snow" mini quilt and embroidery is now a free e-pattern to create an 6 1/2" by 8 1/2" mini quilt decoration.

"Alpacas Grazing In The Field" mini quilt and embroidery is now a free e-pattern to create an 8" by 12" mini quilt decoration.

"Alpacas Love Their Apple Trees Mug Rugs" is now a free e-pattern to create two 4 1/4" by 7" alpaca stitchery mug rugs.

"Alpacas Love Their Daisies" is now a free e-pattern to create a 4" by 7" alpaca stitchery in a 5 1/2" by 7 1/2" purchased picture frame.

"Alpacas In The Woods With Their Apple Tree" mini quilt and embroidery is now a free e-pattern to create an 6 1/2" by 8 1/2" mini quilt decoration.

"Alpacas At Spooky Hollow" mini quilt and embroidery is now a free e-pattern to create an 6 1/2" by 8 1/2" mini quilt decoration.

"Alpacas Rock Penny Rug Picture" is now a free e-pattern to create a 12" by 12" alpaca felt picture in a 15" by 15" purchased picture frame with 1 large and 8 small alpacas in a penny rug style design.

Alpacas Rock Penny Rug Picture Decoration Wool Felt Free E-Pattern

After making all my penny rug wool felt Victorian dress ornaments and my "Circle Me In Dresses" I turned my attention to using the wool felt to create alpaca mini quilts and standard penny rug table-mat or candle mat.

This time I wanted to place some of my wool felt standing alpaca designs and grazing alpaca designs within the penny rug and, like my "Circle Me In Dresses" picture I decided not to use this as a table-mat or candle mat but, instead, as a framed picture.

I was happy with the way the alpaca picture turned out and hope you enjoy making one of your own.

Alpacas Rock Penny Rug Picture is an e-pattern to create a 12" by 12" alpaca felt picture in a 15" by 15" purchased picture frame with 1 large and 8 small alpacas in a penny rug style design.

Each felt alpaca piece is embroidered as a stitchery with the basic alpaca standing or grazing outline and then each is embroidered to the felt background. The large standing alpaca and small standing alpacas are embroidered using the same large and small standing alpaca design. The four standing alpacas are then needle felted with alpaca roving which I purchased from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber. The four grazing alpacas are eating grass behind a fence. The base and back lining are blanket stitch embroidered along the edge.

The pattern can be made as just a blanket stitched penny rug or as a wool felt blanket stitched picture enclosed within a wall picture frame or tabletop picture frame.

The pattern includes text instructions, step-by-step color diagrams for finishing the alpaca penny rug from start to finish, full page picture layout sheet, alpacas embroidery design instructions sheet and full page single sided pattern piece sheets. The pattern also includes step-by-step illustrations and instructions for blanket stitching.

Gotta Love Beautifully Hand-Dyed Alpaca Roving Multi Color Blender Packs From Rock Garden Alpacas

I can hardly wait to use this hand dyed alpaca roving that I got from Rock Garden Alpacas.  Look at all the beautiful colors.  I can imagine all sorts of needle felted fairies, flowers or pictures.  Can't you?

I have to admit I'm a little biased when it comes to this alpaca roving.  My sister and her husband are the owners of Rock Garden Alpacas.  My sister processes her alpaca roving and creates amazing natural roving packs, hand dyed multi-colored roving packs (like those shown above), hand-spun alpaca yarn, and hand-spun and hand dyed alpaca yarn.

While I am a little biased I have to tell you that the alpaca fiber you get from Rock Garden Alpacas is of the finest quality.  I've used a lot of wool roving, mainly from craft stores, and have to tell you that the wool roving I've used from the craft stores pales in comparison to my sister's alpaca fiber roving.

The craft stores sell limited amounts of cheap roving that doesn't felt well and cannot be used for needle felted art dolls, doll hair,  or wall art.  Plus, the colors are never consistent within the packages so end you up with various shades of the roving you want to use.  A lot of it is very hard, lumpy and, sometimes, contains vegetable matter. It's fine for small beginner felted projects but not usable for more advanced felting projects.

I don't knit or spin my roving but know that my sister's roving is of such fine quality and consistency that it is sought after my spinners and knitters.  If you'd like to read the customer reviews from her Etsy shop please click here.

Here's what Deb had to say about her alpaca roving:

Hand dyed and natural color mill processed alpaca roving for all your felting projects. BIG "Blender" pack includes 24 assorted colors that have been hand dyed, using professional acid based dyes. Roving was braided together and then hand dyed a single color. When the braid was undone this created varying shades of the color throughout the roving - Fantastic for blending color into your projects. The braided rovings were left in the dye pot until all dye was exhausted and then rinsed a minimum of 3 times to reduce bleed thru. Amounts of roving supplied for each color vary. Also included in the BIG "Blender" Pack are 8 natural colors - lesser amounts are supplied of each of these rovings. This pack contains 32 colors equaling 3+ ounces in fiber weight.

This hand packaged and assembled package of alpaca roving comes from prime blanket fleece of various alpacas with different grades of fiber; perfect for all your needle felting or wet felting projects. As stated above all fibers have been rinsed at least a minimum of 3 times to remove any possible excess dye; however, please test as you may experience a small amount of bleed when you wash or wet the fiber for the first time; especially darker color dyes.

All products are processed and stored in pet free/smoke free environments.

Leave It To An Adorable Little Boy To Ruin The Summer Of White Faced Girls!

It was supposed to be the summer of white faced girls.  Sunflower's baby was to be the 4th cria born this summer and was supposed to be a girl!  At least that's what my sister was hoping for.

Well, leave it to a male to screw things up.  Rock Garden Alpacas 4th and final cria for the 2015 season was a little boy.  An adorable little boy.

Look at his adorable face.  How could you be mad at him for being a boy when he's the epitome of cuteness!  So, my sister named him Stachys.

Here's what my sister had to say about him:  "Here he is! Our 4th and final cria for the 2015 season. Introducing Rock Garden's Stachys a very fine, crimpy bright white full accoyo. Mom is our girl Sunflower and sire is Ideuma Creek Alpacas Accoyo Truman co-owned with Gentle Breeze Alpacas. Very exciting!!"

So Stachys joins his 3 cousins:  Gladiola, Peony, and Marigold.

Gladiola

Peony

Marigold

So now my sister has three adorable female alpacas with beautiful white faces and one "cute as a button" little boy..
