I Hate Snow, But Love Snowmen! Go Figure!

I hate snow, but I love snowmen.  Go figure!!!  There's just something cheery and irresistible about snowmen and their adorable faces.

The older I get the more I dread the winter season.  As far as hubby and I are concerned there is nothing adorable about snow.  So, why would two people who hate the snow stay in New England?  It's our home.  Always has been and always will be so we reluctantly approach the winter season every year.

No matter how reluctant I feel about snow I do love making snowmen.  If you love making snowmen too, you'll be happy to know that we have several free tutorials, e-patterns, and e-books for creating adorable snowmen.  Enjoy!

Bookstore Shopping With Mom - What Can be Better Than That

I Just Love To Go Bookstore Shopping!  For me there is nothing more relaxing than going bookstore shopping at my local bookstores.  It was especially enjoyable when I would share this experience with my Mom.  She loved to bookstore shop too.

Not only was the time spent with my Mom thoroughly enjoyable, but we both loved books. We could spend hours upon hours just walking up and down the aisles looking at the best sellers, the discount books, the magazine section, etc. My mother always went to the "cooking" section first while I always went to the "dolls and crafts" section.

Now I wonder why that is????? Couldn't be because I love "dolls and crafts?" Nah!!!!

Why am I telling you this? Because I was fortunate enough while my Mom was still alive  to go bookstore shopping with her many, many times and for that I am so grateful. They were always delightful trips and usually I came home with some new best sellers from some of my favorite "romance" authors.

The last few trips I came home with a few "doll and craft" books to add to my collection.  If you believe I just bought a "few" craft books you don't know me very well.  My Mom used to look at my shopping cart and say, "Really, Linda!" LOL LOL

Over the years, however, I started to get a little disappointed browsing through the local bookstores for "doll and craft" books. You might wonder "why" that would be as I've just told you that I love shopping at my local bookstores.

Well, I've found that in browsing through my local bookstores several years ago that they just didn't seem to be carrying a lot of "doll and craft" books in their stores anymore. As a result I found when I'm looking for "doll and craft" books that I'd much rather shop online. I discovered Amazon a long time ago and found that I loved being able to search and sort for books to my hearts content. I could easily find the categories I wanted, the authors, best sellers, etc.

At Amazon I can browse by category, look at the new releases, scan the future releases, check out the magazines, etc. I don't have to get down on my knees (which at my age is no longer fun) and crane my neck to look for the "doll and craft" books on the bottom shelf. It's so much more enjoyable to sit in my chair and let my fingers do the walking.

I could spend hours and hours doing this as well. However, the one big drawback was that in sitting at my computer browsing through my online bookstore's is that I was missing one of the ingredients that made my local bookstore shopping experience so enjoyable - my Mom. I often thought about buying another computer and another computer set-up so my Mom could sit right next to me and let her fingers do the walking.

However, I know what she would have said to that and it would have been a big resounding "ABSOLUTELY NOT!" She'll give me that look that only Mother's can that makes you feel like your 3 years old even though you're a grandmother yourself. Then she'd say," Linda, a little fresh air never hurt anyone. Besides you need the exercise!" And, more importantly, she loved getting out of the house and loved going to the local bookstores to shop.  So, we would.

So, we continued to spend some lazy afternoons at the local bookstores. I'd still check out the "dolls and crafts" section first, but I wasn't going to be disappointed anymore because I knew I'd be coming home and letting my fingers do the walking. I like to think my Mom never knew I was doing online book shopping but I'd be foolish to think so.  She always knew.  They always do.  Perhaps, it's motherly instinct.

I learned to love books not only from my Mom but my Dad and Grandma as well.  They all loved books and instilled a love of books in me.  So, none of them would be surprised that I designed a "We Love Books" collection of graphics and products for my "It's Raining Doll Parties" website and gallery.  Bookstore shopping and products displaying a love of books - what could be better than that!

I love the new 'We Love Books" products so much I decided to order the following:

I can hardly wait for it to arrive. How adorable is that? It'll be great for all the future bookstore browsing and shopping I may do!

How To Make My Mixed Media Xmas Village Free E-Book

Three years ago I fell in love with mixed media creations.  Now I know what you're going to say, "You love every craft, Linda."  Well, that is very true but, right now, I love mixed media and can't get enough of it.

I have so many ideas for different mixed media creations I want to make but know there just isn't enough hours in the day or days in the year for me to accomplish everything that is on my "wish" list.  So, I must choose what projects to do and which to put aside for another day.

Three years ago I made a snowy mixed media winter and Christmas village set of houses that I placed on two rectangle wood blocks that I had in my wood stash.   This year when I put out my Christmas decorations I decided to put my mixed media  Xmas village out on my family room fireplace mantle and placed in just under the wreath I had created for all my Christmas pins.  I wrote about this in a Linda's Blog post entitled, "What To Do With All Those Beautiful Christmas Pins?"

Every time I looked at it I had creative pangs and wanted to stop everything and go create some more mixed media decorations.  There was no time for that during the holiday season so I had to resort to just enjoying it up on the mantle.

Every time I looked at it I remembered how much fun I had making it.  So, I decided to spend some time creating a free e-book for all of you.

I hope you fall in love with mixed media like I did and enjoy making your own village.  Perhaps it will end up on your fireplace mantle next year, too.

For The Love Of Terra-Cotta Easter Decorations

When I was growing up Easter was a really big holiday.  It was the time of the year when we got new "best outfits" for going to church and had leg of lamb for dinner.  My mother always made the best leg of lamb.  No one else has ever been able to make it as well.  Just thinking about it brings back memories of sitting in the kitchen with the smell of the leg of lamb filling the air.  Yum..........

In thinking about Easter I remembered my beautiful and beloved step-daughter, Kim, and I had made some Easter egg terra cotta pots decorations over 18 years ago - one large and one small pot for the each of us.  We had so much fun making them I thought you might like to make some of your own so I decided to create a free e-book on how we did it.

I hope you have as much fun as we did.  Enjoy!

Why Throw Something Out When You Can Re-Design It! - My Artificial Christmas Tree How-To

Sometimes creating something works.  Sometimes it doesn't.  Wouldn't it be nice if all creations turned out beautiful each and every time?  Even 8 out of 10 times would be great.  The reality for me is more like 5 out of 10 times.

I don't know about the rest of you but when I make something that I'm just not happy with I don't just throw it away.  I hold on to the piece, sometimes for years on end.  I figure that it's a shame to waste a craft supply and if it can be re-designed then why not.  So, I hold on to it until I get a brain storm.

Well, back in July of 2015 when I was taking a class at Artful Gathering we were making some mixed media house creations using different media.  After taking that class I decided to make some mixed media house creations of my own.
