Gotta Love Beautifully Hand-Dyed Alpaca Roving Multi Color Blender Packs From Rock Garden Alpacas

I can hardly wait to use this hand dyed alpaca roving that I got from Rock Garden Alpacas.  Look at all the beautiful colors.  I can imagine all sorts of needle felted fairies, flowers or pictures.  Can't you?

I have to admit I'm a little biased when it comes to this alpaca roving.  My sister and her husband are the owners of Rock Garden Alpacas.  My sister processes her alpaca roving and creates amazing natural roving packs, hand dyed multi-colored roving packs (like those shown above), hand-spun alpaca yarn, and hand-spun and hand dyed alpaca yarn.

While I am a little biased I have to tell you that the alpaca fiber you get from Rock Garden Alpacas is of the finest quality.  I've used a lot of wool roving, mainly from craft stores, and have to tell you that the wool roving I've used from the craft stores pales in comparison to my sister's alpaca fiber roving.

The craft stores sell limited amounts of cheap roving that doesn't felt well and cannot be used for needle felted art dolls, doll hair,  or wall art.  Plus, the colors are never consistent within the packages so end you up with various shades of the roving you want to use.  A lot of it is very hard, lumpy and, sometimes, contains vegetable matter. It's fine for small beginner felted projects but not usable for more advanced felting projects.

I don't knit or spin my roving but know that my sister's roving is of such fine quality and consistency that it is sought after my spinners and knitters.  If you'd like to read the customer reviews from her Etsy shop please click here.

Hand dyed and natural color mill processed alpaca roving for all your felting projects. BIG "Blender" pack includes 24 assorted colors that have been hand dyed, using professional acid based dyes. Roving was braided together and then hand dyed a single color. When the braid was undone this created varying shades of the color throughout the roving - Fantastic for blending color into your projects. The braided rovings were left in the dye pot until all dye was exhausted and then rinsed a minimum of 3 times to reduce bleed thru. Amounts of roving supplied for each color vary. Also included in the BIG "Blender" Pack are 8 natural colors - lesser amounts are supplied of each of these rovings. This pack contains 32 colors equaling 3+ ounces in fiber weight.

This hand packaged and assembled package of alpaca roving comes from prime blanket fleece of various alpacas with different grades of fiber; perfect for all your needle felting or wet felting projects. As stated above all fibers have been rinsed at least a minimum of 3 times to remove any possible excess dye; however, please test as you may experience a small amount of bleed when you wash or wet the fiber for the first time; especially darker color dyes.

All products are processed and stored in pet free/smoke free environments.

Shasta is a gifted flower fairy who has an amazing green thumb. There isn't anything she can't grown or mend. If there's a sick flower or plant that needs tending Shasta is the flower fairy to see. She always knows that to do. A flower fairy with an extraordinary gift of healing.

Shasta's inner body is fully bendable and is sculpted out of Sunflower's alpaca roving from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber.  Her outer body, legs, arms , part of her head and pant cuffs are also needle sculpted from Sunflower's alpaca roving from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber.  Her hands, face, and nose are needle felted from a light pink roving. Her eyes and eyebrows are needle felted from Ivy's brown alpaca roving  from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber.  Her mouth is needle sculpted from red roving and black alpaca roving from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber is used for her pupils, to outline her eyes, and for needle felting her black boots .  White prime roving from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber is needle felted for the whites of her eyes and  her cheeks are blushed with a pink chalk.

Gotta Love Needle Felted Scarecrows

My trio of handmade needle felted OOAK scarecrow art dolls are as different as they are alike.  For sure they are all scarecrows.   For sure they are all needle felted and for sure they're all sitting on grapevine pumpkins.  That, however, is where their similarity ends.

Stan The Pumpkin Man is a little apprehensive about anyone taking his pumpkins.  He knows that everyone will be coming in Fall for their pumpkins and hopes he'll be less apprehensive about them taking them by then. We'll see......

Penny The Pumpkin Pie Maker just loves baking - especially when she's making her famous pumpkin pies. She has a knack for making the best pumpkin pies in the area and is well known far and wide for them. In fact she has so many requests for her pumpkin pies during the Fall season that she can't keep up with all the orders. She tries to but sometimes she needs help from her cousins, Stan The Scarecrow Man, and Samuel Scarecrow. Stan is more than willing to help - even though he's a little apprehensive about his baking skills. Samuel, on the other hand not only thinks being a scarecrow is beneath him - cooking is also. He's just too regal to bake - or so he thinks.  

Unlike his cousin Stan The Pumpkin Man "Samuel Scarecrow" is not apprehensive about anyone taking his pumpkins. In fact, he's more than happy to let anyone take his pumpkins and his bales of hay for free as long as they do the work to harvest the pumpkins and hay bales. He feels that he is too regal to toil in the fields. He was meant for more refined activities like being waited on. Perhaps he should have chosen a different line of work than being a scarecrow.  What do you think....

Four years ago when my sister and her husband became alpaca farmers and started Rock Garden Alpacas they and I had no idea what a big impact that would have on my art doll making.  

With the alpacas came Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber for selling all their alpaca fiber products, including roving, raw fiber, carded batts, handspun yarn, hand dyed roving, and doll hair fibers and with this came my desire to create needle felted art dolls using their products.

My sister and I were looking for ways to show her customers how to use her products when the idea for needle felted dolls came into being. Hmmm... Lets do needle felted art dolls. Hmmm... Now why would I think of that? Hmmm....

My sister gave me several large (make that HUGE) bags of roving and several carded batts (which I loved) from her alpacas Sunflower, Ivy, Cosmo, Zinnia and Masquerade which I used to make my needle felted art dolls, like those shown in the picture collage above.   I loved working with the natural alpaca roving and carded batts - especially Masquerade's gray fiber batts. It was fabulous for making the needle felted dolls.

Several years ago I was visiting my sister and learned how to card batts and dye roving.  It was a lot of fun and I came home with some wonderful carded batts and lots of bright and cheery dyed roving packs. I had Fall combination colors, beautiful blues and purples, Christmas colors and so much more.

Two years ago my sister started spinning her alpaca roving into yarn.  She subsequently learned how to hand dye her yarn and utilize several methods for plying it.  Last year she sent me a surprise package in the mail that contained some of her handspun alpaca yarn. I was thrilled and put this to good use with some of my mixed media art dolls - especially the witches. I've used her raw alpaca fiber, alpaca roving (natural and hand dyed) and handspun alpaca yarn for some of my dolls hair and have to tell you it's just wonderful.

I keep looking for various ways to use her alpaca fiber products and have to tell you that the possibilities seem endless. When I first started researching needle felting there wasn't a lot online or in the craft stores.. It was in it's infancy. Then all of a sudden it seemed to explode with crafters creating tutorials and video's for showing their techniques. I couldn't be happier.

I just love needle felting and watching needle felting, wet felting, and knit & then wet video's and reading tutorials or how-to's. As a result I' have collected close to 300 pins on my needle felted Pinterest board. I hope you enjy needle felting as much as I do.

I also set-up three other Pinterest boards - Amigurumi, Crochet, and Knitting.  I've already pinned over 250 pins to my knitting board - all of which I want to try.  I know how to knit so that should be no problem and have always wanted to try those really big knitting needles they have today.

I've got close to 700 amazing crochet tutorials on my crocheting board all of which I'd love to try.  Of course, I'll never be able to do all of them.  First and foremost I would need to learn how to crochet. Hopefully when I finally have a chance to crochet something some of the how-to's and pins will come in handy.

It should come as no surprise that I also love amigurumi as it basically involves knitting or crocheting little animals and dolls.  Truth be told it's the adorable little crocheted amigurumi animals that are the real impetuous for my learning crochet.

I LOVE Surprise Packages In The Mail

Nothing puts a smile on my face quicker than getting a "surprise" package in the mail from my "baby" sister.  So, the other day when my sister called and asked if I got her package I said with a huge smile on my face - WHAT PACKAGE.  DID YOU SEND ME SOMETHING.

She, of course, said she did but wouldn't tell me right away what it was.  Siblings do have to torture each other this way for a little while before spilling the beans. So, she tortured me for a few minutes before she said it was some of her hand spun alpaca yarn.

I was thrilled to hear this as I, of course, had been dropping little hints or should say BIG hints for months now that some of her alpaca yarn would be put to good use in my house.  My sister had added some of her hand spun alpaca yarns to her Rock Garden Alpaca Fiber Etsy shop and I had my eye on several that I thought would be perfect for doll hair, woodland beards, Santa hair and beards, etc.

So, when she said she had sent a package of some of her yarns I was thrilled and could hardly wait for the mail to come.  When the package came it was filled with a wonderful assortment of Navajo plyed yarns that my sister had hand spun from her own Rock Garden Alpaca fibers.

I immediately had ideas for using all of it and actually put the gray one shown below (2nd from the right in the 1st row) to use that very day.

I thought it would be perfect for the spiky hair I needed for one of my new dolls - Spike A Peek (pictured below).

I ended up using all the gray yarn for his hair but was thrilled with the way it turned out.  Spiky and perfect.  I hope you would agree.

Of course, my sister's yarn can be used for so many other things that doll hair.  It's perfect for knitting, crocheting, mixed media crafts, fiber arts, needle felting, etc.

My New Needle Felted Art Dolls Collection

I have to tell you that I've fallen in love with needle felting art dolls.  One of the reasons I love it is each doll seems to develop their own personality and no two dolls look alike.

No matter how much I try to create two identical dolls it's almost impossible. Perhaps it's because I'm creating the doll layer by layer. Perhaps it's just because the roving just has a mind of its own. LOL Whatever the reason - I LOVE it.

I have a few ideas - well, make that many, many ideas - as to what I'd like to try next. Some of it I have to wait for my sister's visit as she'll be showing me how to hand dye the roving. What fun that will be. And, talk about each item being totally unique. There's no chance you'll be able to hand dye several pieces of roving exactly the same way each time. I can hardly wait.

When my sister visits I'll have to hide all my needle felted art dolls. Knowing my sister she's gonna want all of them and will probably sneak them all into her car one night. I'll have to be on the watch for this. She's a clever baby sister. Sneaky, too..... LOL

In the meantime I've got lots of ideas. Of course, they're all written on little pieces of paper or whatever I could get my hands on at the time so I need to organize then a little better. That may take a little while as I've got a big stack of little pieces of paper. So much so that the stack as fallen over and created a little mess. Oh, well. At least it's a creative mess......

MY Trio Of Needle Felted Handmade Flower Fairy Art Dolls

My trio of handmade needle felted OOAK flower fairy art dolls are as different as they are alike.  For sure they are all flower fairies and for sure they all love flowers and gardening.  They are all the best of friends and love to do everything together and today have decided to re-pot some of their flowers and plants.

As far as flower fairies are concerned they don't get any sweeter than Pearl. She's as sweet as pie and has nothing bad to say about anyone or anything. She loves her life and loves sitting out in the woods among her fairy friends and her precious flowers.

Pearl is sitting on her favorite wooden stool and just finished potting a new flower in a terracotta pot.

Pearl and her friends, Shasta and Gwendolyn, have several flowers to re-pot today. Pearl doesn't mind. She's as happy as can be. She's working with her flowers. She's out enjoying the woods and nature. She's waiting for her friends. What could be better than that?

Gwendolyn, like her friends Pearl and Shasta, loves flowers. However, she isn't as optimistic as her friend Pearl and certainly not as gifted with an extraordinary green thumb like Shasta when it comes to her flowers and gardens. She loves flowers and loves gardening but is all thumbs. Nothing turns out like it should. She buys flowers to plant and then she can't remember what she did with them.

Pearl's inner body is fully bendable and is sculpted out of Sunflower's alpaca roving from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber.  Her outer body, legs, arms and part of her head are also needle sculpted from Sunflower's alpaca roving from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber.  Her hands, face, and nose are needle felted from a light pink roving. Her eyes and eyebrows are needle felted from Ivy's brown alpaca roving  from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber.  Her mouth is needle sculpted from red roving and black alpaca roving from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber is used for her pupils, to outline her eyes, and for needle felting her black boots .  White prime roving from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber is needle felted for the whites of her eyes and  her cheeks are blushed with a pink chalk.

Pearl's blue pants are needle felted from blue roving and her lime green shirt is needled felted from lime green roving. Her light pink and dark pink rose hair is needle felted from light pink and dark pink roving and her green tutu leaves is needle felted from dark green moss roving.

Pearl's fairy wings are made from a combination of light blue felt and royal blue felt and are felted to her.

Pearl is sitting on her favorite wooden stool that has been sponge painted with white, gray, green and beige colors. She just finished potting a new flower in a terracotta pot. Brown roving is used for the dirt in her flower pot, yellow roving is used to needle felt her flower and green roving is used to needle felt her flower stem.

Pearl and her friends, Shasta and Gwendolyn, have several flowers to re-pot today. Pearl doesn't mind. She's as happy as can be. She's working with her flowers. She's out enjoying the woods and nature. She's waiting for her friends. What could be better than that?

My New Needle Felted OOAK Handmade Snowman Art Doll Group

My new group of handmade needle felted OOAK snowmen art dolls are as different as they are alike.  For sure they are all snowmen (actually 4 snowmen and one snow-lady) and for sure they all have their opinions on the Winter.  The latter is where they definitely differ.

Bubbles knows that winter can be a harsh time especially for her beloved red cardinals so she does everything she can to make sure they survive the winter. She loves being outdoors with her "birdie" friends. This year she built them a new birdhouse and hopes they like it.

Bubbles is sitting behind and holding her new wooden birdhouse. Two of her favorite red cardinals are out and about the birdhouse.

From the response she's gotten from her "birdie" friends it seems they like their new birdhouse. In fact, they want to decorate the inside and have asked Bubbles what she thinks about the decor they have suggested. What do you think she'll say?

Icicle is a very artistic snowman and loves sculpting snowflakes and ice sculptures. Whether it's a snowflake or ice sculpture - the more complex and complicated the better. He just loves the challenge and loves being as creative and unique as possible. After all no two snowflakes are alike and neither are his creations.

Icicle is holding his latest snowflake creation and he's sitting atop a wooden covered box.

Icicle loves being creative and hopes you like his new snowflake. Next he's starting on his new ice sculpture. Wonder what it will be?

BoBo just loves to ski and is so excited because the forecast this weekend is for a Nor'easter. That means tons and tons of snow. And, that means unlimited skiing opportunities. For him winter means skiing and ski all winter long he does.

BoBo is holding his favorite pair of wooden ski's and ski poles. He's sitting atop an upside down wooden bucket.

BoBo is eager to get skiing this weekend and hopes the weathermen are tight in their predictions. If there's a blizzard you'll find BoBo out skiing in it.

Sparkles just loves the winter season and everything that entails - including snowstorms, blizzards, sleet, icicles, cold weather, and the cold. In fact, there's nothing about winter that she doesn't like.

Nippy, on the other hand, thinks the winters are getting to be a little too cold for him. He'd prefer a little warmer weather. Certainly not to the point where he would melt, but not sub-zero temperatures.

Sparkles wishes that Nippy would love the winter like she does but just can't convince him. Perhaps it's just too "nippy" for him? What do you think?

Bubbles And Her Cardinals - 14" Needle Felted Handmade OOAK Snow-lady Art Doll

Bubbles knows that winter can be a harsh time especially for her beloved red cardinals so she does everything she can to make sure they survive the winter. nShe loves being outdoors with her "birdie" friends. This year she built them a new birdhouse and hopes they like it.

Bubbles inner body is fully bendable and is sculpted out of Sunflower's alpaca roving from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber.  Her outer body, legs, arms, pant cuffs and head are also needle sculpted from Sunflower's alpaca roving from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber.  Her cheeks are blushed with a pink chalk and her carrot nose needle felted from orange roving. Her black boots, black gloves, eyes, and facial features were made using black alpaca roving from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber. Her gray pants were needle felted from carded batts from Rock Garden Alpacas Fiber.   Teal blue roving has been needle felted to form her billowy scarf and felted around her neck.

Bubbles black hat is handmade and hand sewn from black felt and has a needled felted teal blue band. Her dark teal blue vest is handmade and hand sewn from dark teal blue wool. It is gathered around the waist with dark teal blue DMC embroidery floss. She is also wearing a handmade and hand sewn with light gray felt vest with teal blue wool pockets and is embroidered along the edges and pockets with gray DMC embroidery floss running stitches.
