I've Been Playing Again! This Time With Labeley.com

If you're a reader of my Linda's Blog and have been following me and all my blogs (yes, I do have a few! LOL LOL) you are well aware that I love to play and experiment. Especially when it comes to interactive websites.

Well, a couple of weeks ago I received an email from Ana Brady at Labeley.com (http://www.labeley.com) asking me if I'd like to try their "free online custom label creator developed by the team behind the well-known free online tool for designing and customizing labels, Labeley."

Hmmm... Free online tool for designing..... What's not to love about that?

So, given my love of playing I thought I'd try it out. Plus, she volunteered to write a "How to Create Holiday Decorations For Free With Labeley" article for me. Another plus....

While I had planned to do other things today I decided to read her how-to article and try out Labeley.

Here's what her article said:

How to Create Holiday Decorations For Free With Labeley

You must’ve noticed over the past few weeks how the nature around us has been changing its colors. Leaves on trees turned pale yellow, coral, and even bright red. The whole nature is gradually taking on warm golden, amber and scarlet hues. These changes of colors indicate that the green summer is long gone and fall rolls around. The temperature is dropping, but the holiday excitement is rising. Halloween is just around the corner, while Thanksgiving and Christmas are on their way. It’s that time of the year when you seem to be spending most of your your spare time on decorating your home for the next holiday.

Thankfully, fall with its colors and hues is probably the most inspirational season for holiday decorations. And what better way to spread the holiday spirit than to bring the warm and vivid hues of fall into your home? Let the fall inspire you with ideas to decorate your home this holiday season! You can mix elements such as fall foliage, pumpkins, pinecones, acorns and candles to decorate your fireplace or entrance or any other part of the house. Or, for more Halloween-centric appeal you can add some scary spiders or bats on the curtains, furniture etc.

Rug Making Tutorials, Video's, Patterns and How-To's Pinterest Board

When I was a teenager I used to accompany my mother up to the wool mills in Lowell where she could get wool for the braided rugs she liked to make. This was when original wool and thick, waxed thread was used to create handmade rugs.

I can remember her cutting the wool into strips and them feeding them through a red and green colored clamp that she attached to a table. With the help of 3 braid aids she was able to create a tight braid for the rug she was making.

I was surprised that her first braided rug was such a large rug. It was a 11' by 12' oval rug for our family room. Once she had her braided pieces she would spend hours on the floor stitching her rug together with the thick, wax thread. It was difficult to do and she inevitably wound up with backaches and cuts in her hands and fingers from the wax thread.

However, the end results were just beautiful and her rugs lasted the family for several decades.

I loved watching her do this and have thought from time to time that I might like to make a handmade wool rug on my own. Unfortunately it would take a lot of time which is a commodity for me these days. Perhaps when I finally do get a chance to make a rug the tutorials, video's and how-to's on my "Rug Making Tutorials, Video's, Patterns and How-To's" Pinterest board will come in handy.

If you love my Rug Making Tutorials, Video's, Patterns and How-To's board please follow my board by clicking on the "Follow On Pinterest" link above.

Have fun making your rugs.

The Dolls Product Lines Series - Stand Alone Snowman, Plump, Medium and Long John Snowmen

Stand Alone John

As a crafter I just love making snowmen.  The reason is they are just so versatile. They can be made out of just about anything: cloth, various types of clay, paper, needle felted out of roving, created from various fibers, made of yarn, wood, or combinations of any of the mediums mentioned. Style wise they can be country, primitive, shabby chic, Victorian, folk-art, rustic, or woodland.

I used to make cloth and wood snowmen and a couple of years ago started making needle felted snowmen out of alpaca roving.

One of the easiest snowmen I made years ago was a wood snowman I named "Stand Alone John." He's an 8" self-standing snowman made out of 5/8" pine wood. He's completely painted and has a wool fringed scarf and baby sock hat on the top of his head. A pompom adorns the top of his hat and just adds to his charm.

He's a wonderful decoration for the Christmas holiday season and during the winter months. I enjoyed making him and thought you might enjoy making one of your own. So, I created a free e-book for you. Enjoy!

Plump, Medium and Long John Snowmen

Plump John Snowman Ornament is the most adorable handmade 4" painted wooden plump snowman with an adorable face, fabric scrap scarf wrapped around his neck, blue "Bring On The Snow" heart, and knit cap on his head.

Medium John Snowman Ornament is a handmade 6" painted wooden snowman with an adorable face, fabric scrap scarf wrapped around his neck, and knit cap on his head.

Long John Snowman Ornament is a handmade 8" painted wooden snowman with an adorable face, fabric scrap scarf wrapped around his neck, and knit cap on his head.

All three snowmen are just adorable ornaments and are easy to make.

The Dolls Product Lines Series - Susanna, Angelic Marion, and Tattered Grace Angel Doll and Ornaments

Over the years I've made many angels of different forms and shapes.  Some were wooden, some cloth, some animal angels, terracotta angels, mixed media angels, and even cross-stitch angels.

Susanna

"Susanna" is a young, but very special angel with some very beautiful qualities and a very special charge. She is a kind and loving angel who has a very special heart. One who manifests nothing but goodness in everyone and everything.

Her charge is to spread compassion, love, understanding, peace, contentment, and grace to everyone she meets. It's a tall order for such a young angel, but Susanna feels she is up to it.

"Susanna" is a 12" Victorian faceless cloth angel doll. She has a muslin body and her boots are black and cross laced. Her blond hair is fashioned into bangs in the front and long pigtails tied in the front with ribbon. Wrapped around the top of her head is a floral garland.

She is wearing lace trimmed pinafore bloomers that are gathered at the waist and a lace trimmed pinafore slip that is also gathered at the waist.

Her beautiful white dress has a lace trimmed center bodice with lace trimmed front to back straps, lined and lace trimmed over sleeves, and lace trimmed sleeves. Her dress is three tiered with lace trimming on each tier and gathered along the waistline. It is gathered at the neck edge and then adorned with a pearl and lace ribbon trim.

Her wings are wired satin ribbons and fashioned in a bow in the back. She is carrying a small pink floral bouquet.

Susanna is anxious to fulfill her mission. Spreading compassion, love, understanding, peace, contentment, and grace to everyone she meets is a tall order but Susanna feels she can do it with your help. Will you help her?

The Dolls Product Lines Series - Wilbur The Snow Ghoul and Winnie The Snow Ghoul Primitive Ornaments

Wilbur, The Snow Ghoul

"Wilbur, The Snow Ghoul" isn't the friendliest of snowmen. You see, he's a ghoul. He's a snow ghoul.

Now you might be wondering how that can be. Snowmen can't be ghouls - or can they?

Well, there is nothing that says snowmen can't be ghosts or evil spirits. The question is whether he really is ghoulish enough to rob a grave?

The good news is that Wilbur doesn't do that and is actually a friendly ghoul. That is - if ghouls can be friendly? Can they?

"Wilbur, The Snow Ghoul" is a 6" primitive warm & natural cloth body snowman ornament. He has an embroidered face with black embroidered eyes, eyebrows, nose, embroidered ghoulish mouth and blushed cheeks. He is coffee stained throughout.

He has raw mohair hair under his flannel hat and is wearing his favorite fringed flannel jacket which is secured by 4 large X's. A fringed flannel scarf is wrapped around his neck.

Wilbur hopes that his ghoulish appearance doesn't scare anyone off. He'd just love to come to your house. Do you dare let him?

The Dolls Product Lines Series - Isabell Cross My Heart

Benjamin's sister, "Isabell Cross My Heart", is forever telling "Benjamin Cross My Heart" not to make promises he can't keep. But, he keeps doing it and, every time, come Spring, all his friends are disappointed. It seems Benjamin will never learn.

"Isabell - Cross My Heart!" just loves to make little girls smile. Unlike her brother, Benjamin, she never makes promises she can’t keep.

She has a white/gray hair that sticks up from the sides of her head. She is a free standing snow-lady and has a warm & natural body with an embroidered face, lined vest with four pockets which ties in a bow in the front, a fringed scarf tied around her neck, and old lace hanker-chief tied around her neck. She is coffee stained throughout.

All the little snow girls love to gather around Isabell as she is just so sweet and, unlike her brother, Benjamin Cross My Heart" never tells them she'll be around forever. She knows better. She tells them she'll see them next winter and they are happy with that thought. Isabell is too. She would hate to tell a lie.
