How To Make A Quick and Easy Stick Snowman Ornament - Stick Me Right

It's no secret that I hate snow, but love creating snowmen.  Go figure!  As a result I've made quite a few snowman of all different shapes and sizes.  Some require a lot of work and some are quick and easy

I love working with popsicle sticks as they are easy to paint and can be made into just about any seasonal or holiday ornament decoration you might want - like a snowman.  So, I decided one weekend to make a few.  I'm happy to report that they were very easy to make.

As snowmen go they don't get much cuter than "Stick Me Right Snowman Ornament."

Stick Me Right Snowman Ornament is a handmade 5" painted wooden Popsicle stick snowman with an adorable face,  fringed flannel scarf wrapped around his neck, and long fabric cap on his head.

Here's how I made my "Stick Me Right" snowman ornaments:

Supplies Needed:

4 1/2" by 3/8" by 1/16" Unfinished Wood Popsicle Stick
Sandpaper
Acrylic Paint (White, Black, Orange)
Blush (Pink)
Paper Towel
Brushes
Matte Finish or Mod Podge
Low Temperature Glue Gin and Glue
Flannel Fabric Scrap - 8" long by 1/2" Wide (For Scarf)
Wool Fabric Scrap - 1" wide by 8" long
Rope or Braid - 8" long
Pencil

Instructions:

1)  Lightly sand the unfinished popsicle stick.  Wipe off with a wet paper towel and let dry.
2)  Paint the top, bottom, back, front, and sides of the popsicle stick with the white acrylic paint. Let dry.
3)  Using the diagram below as a guide lightly draw the eyes, eyebrows, and nose for the snowman about 3/4" down from the top of the popsicle stick with the pencil.  Lightly draw dots for the mouth of the snowman with the pencil.  Lightly draw 6 circles for the coals an inch below the mouth down the center of the snowman with the pencil.

4)  Paint the snowman nose with the orange acrylic paint. Let dry.
5)  Paint the eyes and eyebrows with the black acrylic paint.  Let dry.
6)  Paint dots for the mouth with the black acrylic paint. Let dry.
7)  Paint six coals down the front center of the snowman's belly with the black acrylic paint. Let dry.
8) Brush matte finish or mod podge on the top, bottom, sides, front, and back of the snowman. Let dry.
9)  Apply the pink blush to the cheeks.
10)  Using the illustration as a guide glue the ends of the 8" rope or braid to the back of the popsicle stick below the face and where the scarf will be with the low temperature glue.
11) Using the illustration as a guide fringe the top and bottom of the 8" long flannel fabric scrap for the scarf and then wrap it around the neck of the snowman just below his mouth. Create a center knot to secure the scarf. Trim and fringe both ends.
12) Using the illustration as a guide glue the center of one of the 1" sides of the 8" wool fabric scarf to the front top of the popsicle strip about 1/2" down (or just above the eyebrows) with the low temperature glue.  Wrap the left and right sides of the 8" wool fabric scrap around to the back of the snowman overlapping one side over the other until it is flush with the sides of the popsicle stick. Glue the 8" long overlap with the low temperature glue.
13) Using the illustration as a guide fold the remaining end of the hat down about 1/4" wrong sides together and then glue it to the back of the popsicle stick about 1 1/2" up from the bottom.
